Certification Certificates: What are the two tables and how are they related?

There are two main tables that track the certifications offered and the certifications issued. The Certification Offered screen is shown below. This has an ID for the certification; FF 1 PRO, the name of the certification: Fire Fighter 1, the description: Fire Fighter I Professional Certification, the current standard: NFPA 1001 - 2002 Ed. and the certificate type: PRO.

Note that the CURRENT STANDARD field indicates the standard for which new certificates will be issued. Entries in this screen become the certifications that are offered by MFS.

For a person to have a certificate issued to them, an entry must be made in the Certifications and Certificates screen as shown below. Note that when you create a new record (issue a certificate) the STANDARD field is copied from the CERTIFICATE Current Standard field from the previous screen. This value can be modified for this individual if desired.

This indicates that you should keep the value of "CURRENT STANDARD" in the certificates issued screen up to date. Certificates issued before this value changed will not be altered, but, new certificates will have this value by default.
